Youth Classes

Motivation is the key element for learning - if a person is motivated they will learn, they will adapt, overcome and succeed because they are motivated to do so - Children are motivated by play, and by playing with other children, even if they don’t know how to! The majority of children in Coach Jerry’s program are in peer appropriate social groups for this very reason! Coach Jerry has found through years of experience that when he places a child into an age and sex appropriate peer group within the gym setting that the child, regardless of diagnosis or operating level, learns more and learns faster while ENJOYING the experience and learning how to play! The children, regardless of age, are able to model off of each other, to engage in contextual social opportunity and to engage in multiple language use opportunities all while playing/working and being coached to utilize their bodies appropriately for a given situation and coached to replace any maladaptive social or physical behaviors by the trained BModFitness BSI coach. As a result, the children, over time become significantly more fit, more confident, more social and more likely to utilize a variety of verbal and physical communication skills to get their needs met.

Sometimes a family may want to opt for a smaller class size, or for a class with a sibling, in which case the Youth 1:2 class option may be more appropriate. Children will receive many of the same benefits from this class structure, save for the increased social interaction opportunities with a greater number of peers.

In rare instances Coach Jerry may recommend a child start the program in a 1:1 situation - typically this will be when the child presents in such a way that the child or another child could be hazard to themselves or others in the gym environment if that child is not in a 1:1 situation. The goal in this class is ALWAYS to get the child to the point that they are able to participate in the group setting as quickly as possible and the focus is on any of the severe issues found to limit the child to this class type. Additionally, parents may opt for this option for personal reasons, although Coach Jerry will typically advise against it.

Coach Jerry’s Youth BModFitness Program does not provide, nor claim to provide, any recognized Therapy services, such as Behavior, Occupational or Physical Therapies. The youth program can be considered therapeutic in essence, in the same sense that playing a fun game or laughing at a funny show is considered therapeutic, depending on the youth involved and the parents’ personal opinion.
